Rhyne Howard Named to 2024 USA Basketball 3×3 Women’s National Team

ATLANTA (June 5, 2024) – Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard has earned a spot on the 2024 USA Basketball 3×3 Women’s National Team and will represent the United States at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, as announced by USA Basketball today.

Joining Howard on the team are Cameron Brink, Cierra Burdick, and Hailey Van Lith, all selected by the USA Basketball 3×3 Women’s National Team Committee.

At just 24 years old, Howard is the youngest player from the Dream to compete in the Olympics. The University of Kentucky graduate also becomes the first alumna from the Wildcats women’s basketball program to grace the Olympic stage.

“Becoming an Olympian this early in my career is both exciting and surreal,” Howard shared with USA Basketball in April. “I’m eager to bring home the gold and gain valuable 3×3 experience to bring back to the WNBA.”

Howard has a strong history with Team USA, having won gold medals at the 2021 FIBA AmeriCup, 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup, and 2018 FIBA U18 Americas Championship. She also competed in the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament and the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Springfield Stop in April.

At the Springfield Stop, Howard led all scorers with 36 points across five games, averaging 7.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, and earning the highest player value average in the tournament.

Howard is now the third Atlanta Dream player in franchise history to play in the Olympics, following in the footsteps of Atlanta legends Angel McCoughtry and Érika de Souza. McCoughtry and de Souza competed in the 2012 Olympics for the United States and Brazil, respectively, with McCoughtry also representing Team USA in the 2016 Olympics.

The Women’s 3×3 Pool Round will commence on July 30, featuring teams from the United States, France, China, Germany, Canada, Spain, Australia, and Azerbaijan.
