Things you should Know before you fly Spirit Airlines

Things you should know before you fly Spirit Airlines!!

I flew spirit only when I have to or just don’t feel like to driving or just too cheap to book a flight on a more reputable airline. I only flew them on one-way flights from MCO to FLY and ATL to MYR(ORLANDO to FT LAUDERDALE and ATLANTA to MYRTLE BEACH). Yes, the fares are super cheap 40 dollars one way going to MCO to FLL and 79 dollars round trip ATL to MYR. It’s cheaper than driving if you play your cards right and know how to dodge the fees.

Once you have any human interaction with an airline it’s going to cost you. Nothing is free. They will try to nickel and dime you any way possible. Do all your transactions online with this airline. Boarding passes online free compared to 7 dollars to print your boarding pass at the airport. Check bag fees 35 dollars online at booking, 40 at check in online and 50 dollars at the airport. Pick a seat 5- 30 dollars. Use the overhead bin 25 dollars when paid online and…100 dollars at the gate( yikes!!!).The overhead bin fee not strictly enforce I have always been able to BS the agent saying that It will be able to fit underneath the seat. You can only get away with this if you have a book bag or a small roller luggage.

More fees continued….
On the plane, there are no free snacks or drinks. Small little Styrofoam cup of coffee 4 dollars. Mini water bottle 3 dollars. Can of soda 3 dollars. Alcohol ranges from 5 to 10 bucks. Food . Well, they have snacks like chips and Ramon noodles for sale between 5 to 10 bucks.

Service
It varies. At the ticket counter not good. If you check a bag they are slow as molasses. The line is long as hell. That’s why I pack light. At the gate so so. It seems the gate agents are happier and helpful in the morning than at night. On the plane. It’s a may issue. It all depends on the flight attendant mood. During boarding, they may smile and say hi or just not having it with nobody. Let’s say this. After the Safety Presentation you are dead to them until you buy a drink, snack, sign up for their stupid credit card or when the plane is about to land.

Planes and comfort
Yes, the gate a get will tell you the planes are clean. But they are never clean. You might have a person in front of you compliant time to time that their seat has an odd stain, crumbs or trash. It’s normal to get used to it. The seats don’t recline unless you are located at the front of the plane. Aka BIG front seat. It’s nothing special you are not going to get a free drink out of it. Keep in mind the seats are very thin. The tray table is about the size of a tablet.

More tips
Arrive early don’t miss your flight. They don’t a lot of have multiple flights going to one location. So if you miss your flight you are screwed. Delays are the normal and long waits on the tarmac is also normal.

Overall it’s not the best airline in the world. And they won’t kiss your ass to win your business. Fares are really cheap for the routes to the Caribbean and south America. And yes you can save a lot of money if you book month or two advance or last minute time to time. Beware You might fly them if booking Priceline name your own price deals flying to Ft Lauderdale. It won’t be my first option to fly when booking a flight. Let’s just say south-west fare was 25 % more I would fly them instead.
