Fans of Diesel, aka Shaquille O’Neal, was pleased headlining a short-notice performance at Atlanta’s Imagine Festival. Before Shaq stepped in, Diplo, founder of Mad Decent, was expected to be one of the main features of the music festival, but had to drop out at the last second. Anyone who’s familiar with Shaq’s DJ style knows that he’s more than capable of taking the stage and giving the audience an unforgettable performance. Not only does he have fans from his professional sports days, but he’s also become a popular DJ with fans all around the world. His personal kind of sound is one that includes a heavy bass and highly kinetic energy. Another reason that Shaq is such a great performer, other than his experience making entertainment history as a sportsman, is that he’s had good guidance from his family. His father taught him to always put on a good show for people that paid to see it–a lesson that’s surely proven by the great success Shaq has seen throughout the fields he’s worked.
Shaq and Diplo have worked together on several musical projects and concerts together in the past, so it’s no surprise that one would cover the other in case of an unexpected event. Diplo, for example, performed for Shaq’s Fun House, which was a festival-carnival hybrid that coincided with the Super Bowl. This was supposed to be another chance for Diplo and Shaq to perform at the same festival, however Shaq took Diplo’s place last night and executed a 75 minute set at the end of the show.
The cancellation was announced via Twitter, which leaves us with a lack of details. All we know about why Diplo cancelled is a statement from IMF citing “unforeseen circumstances”. Many Diplo’s fans were disappointed on his absence , but they can take solace in the fact that there will be so many other great choices to experience at this year’s festival . Starting on September 20, Imagine Festival also includes artists such as Claud Von Stroke, Above and Beyond, and Louis The Child.
