Review: Israeli restaurant Aziza

With Israel still being a fairly young country they have food that is a fusion of different cultures such as Morocco, Turkey, and many other parts of the middle east for inspiration. Atlanta’s new restaurant Aziza which means happiness in Arabic is designed for patrons to share and utilize all their senses for each meal. The menu offers non traditional Israeli dishes such as watermelon with harissa and braised lamb shank.

Braised lamb shank
Akko prawns

The drink menu offers a unique twist with the middle eastern culture such as ‘Harissa Explains It All’ . This unique drink consists of mezcal ,red pepper juice, citric, malic and agave. The 3,938 foot place is designed around an open kitchen concept with a wood burning oven and comfortable seating. The ambiance reminds me of a restaurant you would encounter in New York .

Connected to Aziza, Falafel Nation is a fast casual  restaurant serving freshly made falafels, pitas, hummus bowls, and salads. The owner, Tal Baum, plans to expand her business of Israel street foods to Atlanta later this fall. Tai Baum has a goal of creating an environment of genuinely high quality food made from scratch as a way of life. As a designer and architect she has a real distinct taste for food thanks to her ability to travel the world and experience first hand some of the best hospitality that the industry offers.

While living in Italy for 7 years Baum was able to master the language and developed a very specific knowledge of the Italian cuisine. After learning all the ins and outs of traditional Italian cooking Baum decided to have a go at it but do it her way. She ended up publishing her very own cookbook she called “Zeb” which ended up being her culinary journal.

This coupled with her background in architecture she soon found herself building her very own restaurant and calling it Bellina Alimentari where she was able to show off her collaboration of both the architecture and culinary worlds.
