Dinner at Irie Mon Café in Atlanta

Jamaican cuisine is comprised of a variety of culture’s culinary influences. What better place to experience this than Irie Mon Café, one of Atlanta’s newest Jamaican restaurants located in Buckhead. They were lucky enough to be visited and approved by Miss Cherry of Cherry’s One Stop. She’s a local Jamaican favorite cooking at Faith’s Pen rest stop for weary travelers. She’s been featured in Delta Sky Magazine, Andrew Zimmern’s Guide to Jamaica and the Jamaican tourism’s website, but most notably loved for her classic Jamaican flavors.

I visited the recently opened restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. They offer all day Jamaican style breakfast, but I had my eye (and nose) on other things.

I had their most popular dish, halal curry goat. It is cooked strictly with the best halal meat. I was told the culinary history of curry goat can be traced back to India.

I also had the brown stewed oxtail  Slowly braised oxtail served in a savory sauce. It was so delectable and memorable!

Last but not least, I couldn’t leave without trying the jerk chicken, marinated overnight and cooked out doors- it brought me on a trip to the island! I was told the culinary history of jerk chicken descends from African influences. Overall this is the most authentic Jamaican food experience I’ve had in Atlanta and I wish this growing business the best of luck!
