Dinner and Arches Craft Beer at Kitchen Six

Last week, Kitchen Six teamed up with Arches Brewery to create a craft beer pairing event. Kitchen Six, fairly new, is a casual fine-dining restaurant in North Decatur by Chef Jason Jimenez, who also worked in well-known Atlanta restaurants—Canoe, Local Three, and Muss and Turner’s, to name a few. Arches Brewery, 14 months old, is a lager brewery focusing on old-world-style beer, previously nonexistent in Georgia.

We had a four-course dinner paired with beer. Each guest tried out the Spicy Chili Caramel Popcorn paired with Arches’s Unseasonal Lager. Cornbread Panzanella was paired with Southern Bel a Blondie Ale. Roasted red fish was paired with Queens Weiss Hefeweizen. Roasted pork loin was paired with Mexican Empire Lager. Finally, chocolate mousse was paired with Five-Week Sail a Baltic Porter.

My favorite was the Roasted Red Fish with Queens Weiss Hefeweizen. The red fish was fresh and flaky, consisting of fried tomatoes, potato puree, DSC05751_1salsa Verde, and charred lemon. The beer was unique, a true Bavarian Hefeweizen only made in Georgia. It’s conserved the oldest known yeast strain in the world.

Overall, this was a fantastic, informative, and unique culinary event where simple chef-made meals were paired well with local craft beer.
