Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated resident production in Hawai’i, titled “‘Auana.” Set to grace the stage of the OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel in late 2024, this extraordinary blend of artistry, acrobatics, and heritage marks a groundbreaking venture into live entertainment inspired by Hawai’i.
Named after the Hawaiian term signifying a journey or wandering off the beaten path, ‘Auana was meticulously selected in collaboration with community voices to capture the essence of the exhilarating experience awaiting audiences. Helmed by Cultural Creative Producer Dr. Aaron J. Salā, Director Neil Dorward, Costume Designer Manaola Yap, and Choreographer Kumu Hula Hiwa Vaughan, ‘Auana promises to seamlessly weave Hawai’i’s captivating stories and historical milestones with Cirque du Soleil’s iconic fusion of awe-inspiring acrobatics and captivating storytelling.
“Our vision for ‘Auana authentically connects audiences to the spirit of the Hawaiian islands through innovative storytelling, incorporating hula dance, music, comedy, and breathtaking acrobatic performances,” expressed Dorward. “We aim to transport our audiences into a world where stories are liberated from reality, paying homage to the land and its people.”
Rooted in the Native Hawaiian inspiration drawn from the islands’ natural beauty, ‘Auana will come to life through vibrant colors, rich textures, immersive projections, and captivating sounds, promising a spellbinding celebration of Hawaiian culture. This historic debut further enriches the illustrious lineage of Waikīkī entertainment, returning excitement to the heart of this iconic neighborhood at the OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. The dedicated venue for ‘Auana will be a custom-designed, intimate theater space accommodating up to 784 guests.
