BayHaven Food & Wine Festival to celebrate Black chefs, food and culture

BayHaven Food & Wine Festival is taking off in a big way. Its inaugural has been scheduled for Oct. 22-24 at Camp North End in Charlotte.

The festival is a celebration of Food and Culture that aims to create opportunities for Black experts within the hospitality industry. It was founded by husband and wife team Gregory “Greg” Collier and Subrina Collier.

According to Subrina, since tickets went on sale June 19, the festival has been receiving a tremendous response. Tickets are selling quickly and steadily. The Black Stork and Harlem Nights dinners have sold out, among other packages. These events will not have any additional tickets available.

Additionally, tickets are still available for various other events scheduled for the weekend, such as the Chuckwagon Carnival, Cotton Club Tasting Tents (with chef classes and the Black Triangle Art Summit available as add-ons), Savoy Jazz Brunch, and Front Porch Pickin’. bayhavenfoodandwine.com has tickets starting at $10.

The list of participating chefs keeps evolving and includes Jamie Barnes, Erika Council, Adjoa Courtney, Tiffany Derry, Jennifer Hill Booker, Ederique Goudia, Gerald Hawkins, Jerome Grant, Adrian Lipscomb, Armani Johnson, Stephen Jones, Josh Lee, Kevin Mitchell, Ricky Moore, Lamar Moore, Therese Nelson, Duane Nutter, Matthew Raiford, Keith Rhodes, Cleophus Hethington, Todd Richards, Chris Scott, Enrika Williams, Shacafrica Simmons, Omar Tate, Sabrina Tinsley, David & Tonya Thomas, Whitney Thomas, Jamie Turner, Deborah Vantrece, Lawrence Weeks, Ben Welch and Greg Williams .

Camp North End’s 76 acres of hybrid indoor-outdoor space is being fully utilized by festival organizers for the multi day event, as the health and safety of participants is a priority. COVID-19 safety measures are being followed by the organizers in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines, and they will keep all attendees updated with the latest changes.

Oct. 22 marks the start of BayHaven Food & Wine Festival, which includes food trucks, a Ferris wheel, and other forms of entertainment. A sold-out meal, the Black Stork Chefs Dinner, will close out the evening.

In addition to chef demonstrations and tasting experiences, the Cotton Club Festival will feature artisans on Oct. 23. Seven chefs will be on hand for the sold-out Harlem Nights Chefs Dinner that concludes the celebrations.

This weekend’s festivities will be rounded out by a Savoy Jazz Brunch and a Front Porch Pickin’.
