Atlanta United Edges CF Montréal 3-2 in Thrilling Season Opener

Atlanta United kicked off their 2025 MLS season with a dramatic 3-2 win over CF Montréal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, powered by a debut brace from Emmanuel Latte Lath and a late game-winner from Edwin Mosquera.

Latte Lath, making his first appearance for Atlanta, opened his MLS account in the 42nd minute, rising high to head in a pinpoint corner from Saba Lobjanidze. He doubled his tally in the 63rd minute, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box after Miguel Almirón’s flick-on, calmly slotting home his second. The Ivorian forward also picked up a yellow card for a late challenge in the 75th minute, but his two goals made an immediate mark.

With the match tied late, Edwin Mosquera stepped up as the hero. Coming on as a substitute, Mosquera found himself one-on-one at the edge of the box in the 85th minute, cut inside, and curled a beautiful shot into the top corner, sealing the win for Atlanta. Mosquera also received a yellow card in stoppage time for a late foul.

Atlanta’s attack looked sharp, but defensive lapses allowed CF Montréal to stay in the game. Still, the Five Stripes showed resilience, pulling out the victory in front of their home crowd.
