What better way to celebrate National Brisket Day than with some beer and good Texas brisket. Carne 250 and Gate City Brewing teamed up to celebrate this holiday with authentic Texas BBQ brisket and great craft beer. I was excited to try some beer at Gate City Roswell’s first ever craft brewery and indulge in some really good BBQ. Carne 250 is the creation of Chef Sean Roberts who recently moved to Atlanta in 2015 from Austin, Texas, as a trained culinary chef. In Atlanta, he decided to go back to the basics of good old American BBQ. On National Brisket Day, he featured the El Toro Sandwich.

The huge sandwich consisted of thick cut BBQ smoked brisket, homemade Ancho slaw, pickled jalapeño, sweet onions and Cheddar jalapeno sausage, topped with barbecue sauce—all on a Brioche bun. Let me say, I have been to Texas, and this was pretty authentic! The brisket was very moist, tender and wasn’t dry. You get a nice crunch and a little kick with the jalapeño, and the sausage and Ancho slaw made a great balance with the sandwich.

Gate City Brewing did offer pairing beer options with the Carne 250 brisket. I tried the Terminus—an excellent European style porter. The beer is very rich, dark and smooth with a toasty finish. The last pairing was Autism Awareness—a pale ale. The ale was very refreshing and not too hoppy.

Overall, I had a great time. The Carne 250 brisket was solid. It was, honestly, probably the best brisket I have had in Atlanta. My first visit to Gate City Brewing, too, was impressive. Their new tasting room was very spacious, and their beer selection was commendable.
