Bar Margot is located on the second floor of the Four Seasons in the heart of midtown Atlanta, it was established two years ago (fall of 2015) and is named after the fictional character Margot Tenenbaum.
Bar Margot serves the best meals and continental dishes coupled with custom-made cocktails. Guests at Bar Margot have access to handmade pastas, charcuterie and cheeses, craft espressos, and high-quality coffee selections with a curated beverage program shaken and stirred by some of the city’s top bartenders. The restaurant is led by Executive Chef Michael Patria, and the menu injects traditional American cuisine with European and Asian influences – a truly continental affair I must say.

The plush sofas and blue leather booths would pass for a “romantic” setting that is “quiet enough for conversation,” and on weekends, the DJs pump up the air with good music you can totally vibe to.
The food here is one of Atlanta’s best-kept secrets, and if you are on the lookout for a breathtaking culinary experience, Bar Margot is where you should be. I would have loved to have kept this place a secret, but it wouldn’t have mattered because, with the good job they do here, it’s only a matter of time before reservations at Bar Margot become the hottest deal in town.

I joined a friend to have an early dinner a few weeks ago. We decided to get a few cocktails. I ordered the Gin Margot which consists of gin, lime cordial, tonic, amontillado sherry, and Thai basil. The drink was very refreshing. My friend ordered the Lady Victoria. It consisted of vodka, lemon, Cocchi Americano, and rosemary. I sampled a little of her drink, and it was well-balanced. The rosemary takes away from the vodka taste a little.

Since we both are seafood lovers, we decided to dive in with some oysters. We ordered two of some west coast and east coast oysters. Both were very fresh. We then decided to dive in the Crab Toast. It consisted of avocado coulis, garden herbs, and radishes from Bar Margot’s own garden on the rooftop in the Four Seasons Atlanta. This shareable appetizer was amazing, a must-have, and it was very filling.

The third appetizer we had was Crudo Salmon with shaved radishes that consisted of garlic aioli, spicy pumpernickel crumble, and dill creme fraiche. The dish was delicious and well-balanced; we had to spread the salmon and the sauces together to get the full taste.

Lastly, the Chef was nice enough to treat us with a special dish: Foie Gras Terrine with a Fig Mostarda and a Pistachio Crumb. I loved it. I can’t explain how good it was. Best of all, this dish wasn’t on the menu yet.

After our four courses of excellent small plates, we decided to try the Seared Diver Scallops. This fantastic entree’ consists of charred leeks, forbidden black rice, roasted garlic hollandaise, and Fresno chili. I never tried forbidden black rice before. Gina, our server, gave us a little history lesson of the unique rice. Forbidden Rice was only reserved for the Chinese Emperors to secure their long life and good health. Eventually, common people were allowed to eat the rice. Since then, it has become a healthy staple that is said to be to deliver a long life and good health.

Finally, we got a little adventurous and ordered the Grilled Spanish Octopus. It consisted of marble potatoes, citrus, and saffron aioli. It was simply amazing. My friend had never had grilled octopus and loved it. It is definitely a must-have!

Overall, Bar Margot is a fantastic spot for dates, happy hour, or drinks. Everything we had – from the cocktails, small plates, and entrees’ – was executed in an excellent manner. The presentation, quality, and taste were simply outstanding.
