Last Thursday night I popped over to NEXTO for movie night. They recently started having this one day out of the week and they had ’Two urban licks Executive Chef’, Michael Bertozzi, create a unique menu of specials of ramen, wings and burgers.

It’s currently an open space event for the public on Thursday, located at ‘Two urban licks’. As soon as I walked in, I was blown away by the ambience. It had an amazing industrial lofty feel with a huge open kitchen. I am a sucker for open spaces.

My friend and I were seated towards the back and had a great view of the screen that overlooked the kitchen. That night, they played beetle juice; what’s funny is, we both haven’t seen this movie in 10 years. We started out with some local beer that was on special. I had Reformation Handy, a Belgian-Style White Ale. I was impressed; it was a wheat beer with citrus notes and a little bit of mild tart finish.

My friend ordered the Limoncello; it was light sparkling wine topped with a fresh strawberry.

For appetizers, we first ordered fried shishitos. This is a fun snack to nibble on with drinks and a movie. The snack included blistered fried shishitos sautéed in soy, sesame and Szechuan. I have to call it the Russian roulette of peppers; I had at least 8 and I must say, one of the peppers was very hot.

For the second appetizer we wanted to be a bit adventurous and ordered the disco fries. It was a huge bowl with unagi, wasabi, tobiko, furikake and bonito flakes. The fries also had a very unique taste. It’s like eating a sushi roll on fries.

Third we had the pork belly. I am a sucker for this. It was very moist and was garnished with picked cucumber, radish, wakame and pineapple. The movie ended and they started playing ghost buster, another all-time favorite. We were still hungry so we decided to go for entrees.

I ordered the Double stack. It’s a short rib meat burger topped with house-made Russian dressing, caramelized onions, shredded lettuces, tomatoes, pickles and cheese. This burger is Huge and juicy!! I had to cut it in half. Also, a side of fresh cut fries was enough to share.

My friend loves ramen, so we ordered the Tonkotsu ramen. It consists of a huge bowl of pork belly, menma, scallions, egg and chili oil. I sampled the broth and I was in heaven. Overall, it was a fun night of good food and local beer. Be sure to stop by and try out these great specials and local beer from Reformation Beer this month.
